Abstract
Introduction: The Peripheral geopolitical regions play a special role in the foreign policy of countries. One of the most important Peripheral geopolitical regions Iran is the South Asian region. The South Asian region is a scene of internal conflicts and geopolitical conflicts. What is certain is any country interested in communicating and role-playing in the South Asian region, Firstly, it must identify internal and external variables that extend or decrease relations in different areas with actors in the region. What is happening in South Asia affects Iran's interests. Therefore, having a proper foreign policy strategy provides the ability to safeguard and strengthen Iran's national interests in the South Asian region.
Methodology: The purpose of this research is to make Iran's foreign policy strategy in the South Asian region. This research is applied in terms of purpose and is a descriptive-analytical type of research method, and it is done using SWOT and SDM strategic planning models. Therefore, the method of gathering information and research findings is library and field research. In this study, in order to identify the variables and their influence, the effective factors on the foreign policy strategy of Iran in South Asia, the viewpoints of professors of Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Islamic Republic of Iran in Political Geography, Political Science, Relations International, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has been used.
Result and Discussion: The findings of the research, while identifying the influential variables including 5 strengths, 5 weaknesses, 16 threats and 12 opportunities, finally suggest a defensive strategy as the foreign policy strategy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Conclusion: This strategy, while serving Iran's national interests, does not create tensions in Iranian-South Asian relations, and South Asia's challenges provide the least damage to Iranian foreign policy and the greatest benefits to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
